SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The College Network (TCN) and Independence University (IU) have joined forces to provide online education for respiratory therapists, one of today's most in-demand professions.
Through a partnership with California College for Health Sciences (CCHS) at Independence University, The College Network can offer working adults the first and only accredited Respiratory Therapy Associate Degree program via distance learning. The program combines basic respiratory care courses, research and practical experience in patient care. Graduates are eligible to take both entry-level (CRT) and advanced-level (RRT) credentialing exams through the National Board for Respiratory Care. The College Network's Comprehensive Learning Modules complement the university's online curriculum by preparing students to earn prerequisite and general education course credits by passing college equivalency exams.
"Independence University is honored to be working with The College Network in this high-value endeavor. We recognize the great success TCN has had, and continues to have, in making it possible for thousands of individuals to pursue careers in healthcare," said Justin Spencer, Director of Education Alliances with Independence University/CCHS. "Together, IU and TCN will make the dream of a lucrative career in a helping profession a reality for those with the drive and determination to succeed."
Respiratory care practitioners evaluate, treat and care for patients with breathing or other cardiopulmonary disorders. Job opportunities for respiratory therapists are expected to increase faster than average for all occupations through 2014 because of a current shortage as well as substantial growth in the middle-aged and elderly populations-a development that will heighten the incidence of cardiopulmonary disease.
"The College Network is excited to be working with Independence University to provide quality education to entry-level allied health workers and nursing and medical assistants who wish to expand their skills and become more marketable in the workplace," said Gary Eyler, CEO of The College Network. "Not only is Independence University the world's leading educator in respiratory therapy, but considering the growing need for these important healthcare professionals, we are especially proud that we are playing a part in helping to fill that need."
