ROHNERT CITY, Calif. - The College Network, Inc. (TCN), Indiana State University (ISU) and Sonoma State University (SSU) have joined together to provide a program to serve the educational needs of California nurses wishing to advance from a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Registered Nurse.
The LVN to BSN Bridge Program has been designed exclusively for California nurses so they may participate in TCN and ISU's current BSN program for Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVN). This program, the first and only completely distance-based program in the country, offers the same rigorous curriculum that campus-based students receive.
"Distance learning enables LVNs to work on their BSN degrees at their own pace and in their own space," said Esther Acree, RN, MSN, Sp.Cl.Nsg, Interim Dean of the Indiana State University School of Nursing. "This is one way that nurses can advance their careers while continuing to work and support their families. Continuing education is essential for personal growth and improved patient care."
"The College Network is thrilled that the partnership between Indiana State University and Sonoma State University has been accepted by the California Board of Registered Nursing," said Gary Eyler, CEO of The College Network. "Both of these universities are known for their prestigious nursing programs and for their innovativeness and their quality of education. Now we can offer to California nurses the same high-quality, convenient program that their fellow nurses around the country are currently enjoying."
Here's how it works. Participants:
- Study TCN's comprehensive learning modules to prepare to pass prerequisite and general education courses through college equivalency examinations;
- Finish upper level and nursing courses (generally 40 hours) online with ISU; and
- Complete over 800 required clinical contact hours with local preceptors at SSU approved clinical facilities approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
"We were immediately impressed with ISU and their LVN to BSN Distance Education Program," stated Dr. Liz Close, PhD, RN, Department of Nursing Chair, Sonoma State University. "Our two universities share similar values and philosophies toward nursing education. We can certainly concur with ISU and TCN that a program like this is needed in California. We look forward to participating in this program to help meet the growing demand in our state for qualified baccalaureate-prepared nurses."
